If you have a roof or basement leak, it is imperative that you take action immediately. Otherwise, you could end up with some serious problems that could be hazardous to your bank account, your health and safety.

First, a basement leak could damage your home's foundation. Foundation damage can take thousands of dollars to repair, and that's not counting the cost it will take to fix your cracked walls and ceiling. You might even have to re-hang your doors if the foundation causes your house to shift a great deal. Additionally, foundation issues could hurt your ability to sell your home in the future, even if you get the problem fixed.

Failing to fix a leak could increase your chances of having a house fire as well. When water leaks into the framework of the house, it can come into contact with wires. That creates a leakage current. Over time, the current will generate a lot of heat and it can become flammable. This can be prevented by fixing a leak immediately.

Finally, you can end up with mold if you do not take care of your basement or roof leak immediately. This is especially true if water gets trapped inside of the home's insulation. That creates the perfect environment for mold to thrive. This is very dangerous and it can hurt the resale value of your home.

Leaks aren't just annoying. They are dangerous and potentially costly if not addressed immediately. While you could try to patch the leak on your own, unless you’re a pro you probably can’t be sure that you’ve done a complete job. It is hard to find the source of a leak unless you have experience so you could end up doing more damage than good. It's a good idea to hire a professional so your basement of roof can be fixed quickly and correctly.
