The Usual Suspects: The Most Common Places to Look for Leaks

Everyone who has ever lived in a home has at one time or another had a leak somewhere. Maybe it is a regular occurrence or maybe it only happened once when it had rained for 40 days and 40 nights. Nevertheless, there are some areas where leaks are more likely to occur. So, in today’s blog article, we are going to give you some suggestions on the most common places to look for leaks.

Basement: Walls and Corners

Basements are notorious for leaks, so check yours regularly if you have one, and look at all the corners for signs of water, discoloured paint, or bubbling or cracking drywall. Feel the walls and floors in the corners for any sign of dampness. And always check during and after heavy rains.

Ceiling Corners

In the rest of the house always check your ceiling corners. This is where it is very common to see water stains or deteriorating paint or drywall.

Doors and Windows

Check around doors and windows, and especially underneath them. It is not unusual to see water coming into a home under a door or seeping below a window. Often windows are not installed correctly, and water is just waiting to come in.

Home Exterior

Check to see if there is water pooling near the house. If you have basement windows or window wells, this is where you might have a problem if the drainage is not working correctly. Look to see if you have any cracks in the foundation, which would indicate the potential for trouble.
