How Our Team Detects a Sewer Problem Before You Have a Flood
Professionals have several methods for detecting sewer problems before you have a disaster. There are investigative patterns that they look for and special tools at their disposal. In today’s blog, we are going to briefly describe the ways that professionals detect a sewer problem before it gets bad.
Patterns
First, professionals look for patterns. Are there multiple fixtures draining slowly, making noise and showing evidence of water backing up?
Are there unexplained soggy areas outside? Are there areas in the garden that are exceedingly wet or dry? Are there any sinkholes outside?
Are there any unexplained odours inside or outside the house that smell like sewage?
Are there obvious tree issues such as a large weeping willow planted near the house? (Willows are known to interfere with and damage water pipes.)
Tools
Then there are special tools that professionals use. The gold standard is putting a camera down into pipes so that you can see in real time issues like broken pipes, corrosion, leaks, or tree roots. Cameras can enter pipe on a flexible cable through drain access points or cleanouts.
In fact, old homes are recommended to have this camera investigation done regular such as every two or three years in order to prevent larger problems.
Also, by opening access points or cleanouts, professionals can see if there is a problem with pooling water or detritus that is not flowing out as it should.
The point here is that professionals can detect a problem before you realize there is a problem, and they can prevent a pipe or sewer issue from turning into a disaster.
