Why Are My Old Pipes and Drains Always Getting Clogged?

There are a variety of reasons why the pipes and drains in your old house may be getting clogged. In the blog article we will look at some of those reasons.

Rapid Water Pipe Corrosion

Old pipes in the Vancouver area frequently suffer from a water pipe corrosion which we discussed in our blog last month. Basically, a chemical reaction between the pipe and the water flowing through it corrodes the pipe and causes a dense build-up of material inside the pipe. The best way to fix this is to replace the pipes that have this problem. When there is less room for water to flow inside the pipe, there will be frequent clogs.

Hair and Soap

Bathroom drains frequently get clogged with a combination of matted hair and soap. This type of clog is usually easy to address, but it will happen on a regular basis. When residents in the home have long hair, the problem is more common.

Food

If the drains and pipes getting clogged are in a kitchen sink, then food is a possible culprit. It’s a good idea to try to avoid allowing chunks of food to go down the sink. Also, grease may solidify inside a pipe causing a clog. If possible, throw away large amounts of grease rather than allowing it to go down the kitchen sink drain.

Broken Pipes

Another possibility is a broken or damaged pipe. A broken pipe may seem to be clogged, but may just be a failed pipe connection. Once the pipe is repaired, the water will flow freely.
