Undetected plumbing leaks can wreak havoc on a home, so it is important to find and stop any plumbing issues as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to discover leaky pipes, so homeowners and renters should pay special attention to warning signs of a problem.

Water stains on your walls are a signal to investigate the pipes running behind it. Also, keep an eye out for bubbling paint or wallpaper on top of the affected wall. If you spot mould anywhere on the wall, it could be a sign that there is moisture underneath, pointing to a leaky pipe.

You can also try feeling for moisture instead of just relying on visual cues. Run your hand over the wall and make note of anywhere that feels spongy, damp or damaged.

Use your ears to detect a leaky pipe in your wall. You may hear noises like hissing or dripping, which can indicate a plumbing problem.

Once you have detected a plumbing leak in your wall, you should contact an experienced plumber. Fixing leaking wall pipes can be complex, and almost always involves cutting into the wall in order to locate the affected pipe and repair it. If a wall is very badly damaged, a repair job may necessitate taking down the wall completely and replacing it once the pipe has been fixed.

It is important to properly fix leaking pipes in walls because you do not want to patch up repair holes only to be forced to cut into the wall again if another problem pops up.

It’s also important to call a plumber right away. Leaking pipes in walls go from an annoyance to a big problem quickly. They can cause structural damage and irreversible problems with your home. Leaks never fix themselves, so get things fixed before they get worse.
